Project Feast is Queensland’s most comprehensive and scalable project for bioethanol production from agricultural feedstock. It is SKY Renewables’ industry-leading initiative that links growers in Queensland’s Central Highlands Region to opportunities in the world’s move towards sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
By growing sugar beets as a winter rotation crop in one of Australia’s most productive agricultural areas and converting it into bioethanol, Project Feast represents the most substantive step towards increasing and diversifying incomes for growers in Central Queensland by linking them to the supply chain for SAF and/or RD.
Project Feast aims to play a central role in helping Queensland reach the Government’s $30 billion value target for primary industries by 2030.
Sugar “thick juice” yielded from the sugar beet plant is one of the most efficient and low-cost feedstock for making ethanol. SKY Renewables has entered into a first-of-a-kind MOU with Honeywell UOP, the most substantial global player in alcohol-to-jet technology for converting ethanol to SAF and/or RD.
Airlines, defence aviation and markets around the world are already investing in sustainable aviation fuel, which plays a key role in decarbonising the aviation sector.

Turning the Central Highlands into a biofuels hub that powers Australian aviation
With the biomass resource from the Central Highlands, SKY Renewables’ first project in Emerald will produce 100,000 ton/year of SAF and/or RD. Project Feast is highly scalable as sugar beet is suited to both tropical and temperate climates.
Project Feast will:
Provide income for growers
Deliver highly significant incremental, diversified and stable income for growers by increasing the productivity and yield of Central Highlands’ prime agricultural land.
Drive investment
Drive major capital investment into Central Queensland through the development of a bioethanol plant in Emerald.
Create jobs
Create skilled regional jobs and revitalise local communities, supporting long-term economic growth in rural Queensland.
Protect environment
Providing a real pathway for Australia’s aviation sector to decarbonise, providing a cleaner, more sustainable alternative to traditional aviation fuel that protects the environment.
